I've been wanting to do this show for ages but as usual new music always gets in the way but January being the tight cold horrible month it is I've eased off on the new purchases so thought what better time to do a bit of this. 2 hours of some alternative cover versions of some well worn classics as well as a few bits that perhaps may have dodged the limelight. We go a bit all over the shop here, from the haunting beauty of Roberta's take on Paul Simon to Finn Peters jazz dance workout of Joyce to the slammin live excursion for the Detroit classic "Knights of the Jaguar" at the end. Followers of this page will no doubt already be aware of my love for the drum and bass scene of the mid to late 90s. It was the first musical scene that I properly immersed myself in as I was growing up after I stumbled into dance music through the back door of 8 pack rave tape boxes and the madness of early dance acts on Top of The Pops. Rave was throwing its last throw of the dice before bowing out and splintering into a myriad of scenes and while many of my age in 2011 might proudly confess to 'being there and living it' in the warehouses and early jungle clubs I was doing the complete opposite; watching Grange Hill, Knightmare and Count Duckula and buying every ruddy drum and bass 12" I could get my grubby little hands on. Total obsession. The music blew my head off and despite many friends mocking me I knew that something pretty special was going off in the UK in the 1990s. Fast forward to a new century and strangely many of those old records sound just as relevant now as they did back then. With current scenes now so fractured, splintered but also cross pollinating these ancient records from an era often forgotten still sound fresh to my ears. The ideas and creativity locked in those grooves still echo loudly and in my mind put many contemporary productions to shame, despite being made on a machine that probably had less memory than your current mobile phone. So rather than spend many hours regaling those magical times with misty eyes I decided a few years back to put together a tribute mix series called 'Days Gone By' which would be a yearly affair, a tip of the hat and a celebration of that era. For volume 3 I've tried not to be too obvious with massive anthems (although was obviously tempted by dusting off the likes of Adam F's 'Circles') but made a point of pulling out or one or two bits that perhaps didn't get the exposure they should of from labels like Precious Materials, Basement Records and Certificate 18. Labels so jaw droppingly ahead of the game that we were never going to fully appreciate them until later years. I feel there's more of a old school techno slant on this volume which hopefully all heads of the current resurgence of ancient 4/4 classics will saviour. As always it was a laugh to put together and hopefully they'll be one or two bits on there that you'll enjoy. Let me know if it tickles you as much as it did me. Excuse the odd train crash. Blimey it's that time again. That sure came round a bit quick. Only feels like a few months ago when we did the last one. I'd just like to say a huge thank you to all those that have been checking the shows each and every week this year, dropping me emails, texts and tweets of support. Really does mean a lot. 2011 has been a funny old year really. My weekly little show turned 5 years old in March which I celebrated with a room full of 18 or so close friends, a huge wine and cheese board and a streaming webcam to capture all the nonsense which was a right laugh (the whole room busting out into a full rendition of happy birthday as Elmo brought out a birthday cake in the middle had me in tears). The Weegee & Beane Balloon Trip - The 5th Expedition

I can't believe I'm saying this but throw your calzoné in the air and chuck a pot of ragu on my head we've arrived at the fifth installment of the Weegee & Beane mix series. It was only supposed to be a short trip way back in the summer of 2007.... So how has it come to this? I suppose you could say that old habits die hard but the truth of the matter is that ever since my first imaginary trip round the coast of Italy with Don Weeg (via his sublime mix going round and round my bonce one heady summer) this yearly summer jaunt has become a major date on the calendar for me and here 2011 we find ourselves reaching quite a landmark. Previous volumes have seen us take to the roads via moped and even sail out to sea on Weegee's dodgy mates boat in Volume 4 (big up Carlo the Anchovy) but this year all the stops have been pulled out and we're taking to the skies! Weegee wasn't sure at first but I persevered promising this would definitely be the last time we did this (although I did have my fingers crossed... sssssshh) and before we knew it we had taken to that big blue thing above our heads and were soaring high towards the clouds. The views were really quite remarkable and bar one scary episode where Weegee nearly pushed me out the basket on day 8 it was a proper jolly good adventure. Here was the soundtrack. House Up My Strada Volume 3

So once a year I like to get my house head on and get all mucky with a series I've affectionately named after culinary super hero Greg Wallace. Simply named 'House Up My Strada' this is the third installment in the series and was a lot of fun to do as although I don't always play many straight up house sets out these days I do still buy a lot of the stuff . House is a funny old word that means many different things to different people but the sort of grooves I love are pretty much spread across this 77 minute mix. I guess these days I'm not even sure what house music is and the lines between the styles has all but blurred for me so if it's got a healthy 4/4 kick drum, was made on a computer and gets my feet moving then in my world it gets slapped with the 'house' tag. On this mix there's some old, some new, an exclusive soon to be released track, a couple of classics and even a hip hop instrumental played at the wrong speed which I thought sounded heavy but I'll leave the hotpot jury to decide on that one! Over the past month things have all gone a bit crazy in the world and I was truly shocked to see the horrific footage of the recent tsunami that swept over the eastern coastline of Japan few weeks ago. A scary reminder that mother nature still has us held firmly by the goolies and despite Japan being one of the most technologically prepared countries in the world it suffered terrible destruction to it's coastal towns and villages with the death toll in the thousands. While we may be helpless to stop such natural disasters from occurring one thing we can do is to do is to our bit towards helping the Japanese people recover from this devastating disaster over the coming months and years. To coincide with the fund raising Soul Buggin' last weekend I decided to dedicate this weeks show to the music from that magical island that I've collected over the years. So as a little warm up to our Soul Buggin' party on March 26th @ Moog here in Nottingham I decided to do a little tribute style mix to our guest Phil Asher. I've been collecting his music for a number of years now so thought what better time to pull out some classics from yesteryear and do a mix. Whenever a producer, dj or artist that I admire comes to town I always like to take time out from the usual format of the Noodle Hotpot show and dedicate two hours looking back at some of their productions, remixes or edits that have helped to influence the sound of my radioshow. With the arrival of the Idjut Boys in Nottingham next month I couldn't wait to go digging in the racks and take a trip down memory lane with some of those old records that I hadn't played in donkeys years. As always with these tribute shows there was lots left out that I simply couldn't squeeze into two hours and many records missing in the final list that I'm sure others would of selected but these sorts of mixes are always personal to me and are not intended to be a concise discography. So over the two hours we went from some of their classic downtempo remixes and edits from the likes of Ike and Tina Turner, Zero 7 and Haircut 100 through to their love of all things deep, dubby and funky with monsters like 'Radio rage', 'Implant' and 'Lacatush'. My yearly intergalactic throw down dedicated to a series of fine space-themed mixes from Blobby Parafino from a few years back. His mixes were so good I thought a cheeky tribute to them was in order. Now in it's third year, it's a rather odd mix of some weirdo electronic malarky, wonky wobbly beats, Detroit heads down stompers and all round spacey nonsense I guess. It's pretty out there compared to my usual mixes with recent records mixed up with some older classics but it's just a taster really of some of the music I love to collect and listen to but very rarely get the chance to play out. 2010 - almost done and dusted ain't it which means only one thing. So my favourite time no question has to be compiling this behemoth: my End of Year Noodle Hotpot Review. Now in it's 4 year it really is a bit of a labour of love despite being a headache to compile although I've got to admit I do look forward to going back over the past 12 months worth of tracklistings and re-visiting some of those shows (a total of 38 x 2 hour sessions in total - some 76 hours of web radio nonsense in 2010!) that have been packed full of jibber jabber, fresh music, unreleased pieces, golden oldies and second hand picks ups and plenty of dodgy mixing while not forgetting the many artist tribute shows clocked in (Simbad & Charles Webster, Afronaught, Seiji, Atjazz & Clyde all came under the cosh as well as those 2 special shows I did dedicated to the 7" and 10" format which I enjoyed immensely). So putting all that aside it's time to celebrate the great and the good that was big on the show in 2010 with the rules being even more simple this year: all the tracks had to have been released in 2010 (bar the odd exception where I was either very fortunate to be given them - by legal means I must add!). Of course there were many old school joints that I got my mitts on that were huge in my box but I won't be playing them on this show as I want this to be a celebration of 2010. I'm sure they'll be plenty of omissions that you might of thought should really have been included but like I always say it is only a personal selection. Rest assured they'll be no jive bunny bizness going on; these tracks by and large need to be heard in full, respected and bloody well bought a pint as they've made my year, had me smiling, dancing and generally keeping my faith in music. 01.
